If you want to remain in good standing in video game journalism, you make certain that you donât piss off video game developers who you want to cover or work for.
If you want âlikesâ on your YouTube videos, however, it does help to have some insights, something new to say and insider information.
Would IOI care if someone declared that IOI are moving along with their game development of Project 007, and make general comments of the general plot being pretty cool and surprising? No. IOI announced they were working on Project 007 already and that IOI were writing the script themselves, and that it was a completely novel plot. It is mostly confirmation of what we knew.

Time, the magazine that named Elon âPerson of the Yearâ, has made HITMAN 3 its fifth most favoured game.
The AV Club put it at three out of seventeen games.

Not really? Hitler, Nixon, Raegan, both Ayatollahs, Deng Xiaoping (twice), both Bushes, Bezos, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia and Stalin (twice) were all âPeople of the Yearâ and Bin Laden was a stronger contender than Rudy Giuliani for the year 2001. Elon was simply a person who had a lot of attention this year and he is a name people recognise.
This list has nothing to do with Person of the Year and I was pointing out the irony that the magazine put a game about killing evil, rich people on a best of list the same year the magazine they work for made a real life Hitman villain their PotY. All three authors of the article seem to be stand-up people and their list is literally no different than any other list.
The peopleâs choice was worse since this year it was Jair Bolsonaro (albiet with the same criteria of "It has to be a notable individual morality not a factor). With previous winners being Narendra Modi (twice!), Recep Erdogan, Kim Jong-Un, Mohammad Bin-Salaman and Abdel Fattah al-Sisi.
This also doesnât count winners like online content creators (and the Information Age as a whole), the home computer, the biosphere, Middle America, women, GIs and everyone from Gen X.

I remember from decades ago that Time has had to defend their decisions about things like Person of the Year. Itâs not a measure of who they think is good or best, just the most notable or newsworthy for that particular year. In January 1983 they voted the computer as âmachineâ of the year instead of a person.

This weekâs Crate & Crowbar podcast (a bunch of friends who are game journalists for the likes of PC Gamer etc, including my personal gaming hero Tom Francis, who created the indie games Gunpoint, Heat Signature annd the upcoming Tactical Breach Wizards) focuses on their favourite games of the year, and HITMAN 3 gets spoken of in absolutely glowing terms from 40:38 in the YouTube video below:
