Very happy to see all the high review scores. It’s looking like I made the right choice buying the deluxe edition earlier today!
Is there any review delving into each location, one by one?
You’ll have to wait until Writing on Games comes out with his.
Oh man that channel’s Hitman videos are fantastic
Not sure if this has been posted yet but here’s Rock Paper Shotgun’s video review:
Contains an interesting new tidbit about the more cinematic parts of some mission objectives in that you can “opt out” of them on subsequent playthroughs, making it sound like what they did with Colorado’s storm shelter in a later update.
“I give it a hearty recommendation.” (no number score as far as I can tell)
This guy’s review is kind of wrong at points but I’m glad he liked it.
After the enthusiastic preview, I was sure there’d be a a review article as well:

Now that it’s over, I can confidently call IO Interactive’s “Hitman” trilogy one of the most consistently great series of games ever created. No other trilogy has expressed this much confidence and consistency in its execution. Agent 47′s story may be over for now, but these three games offer countless ways for you to tell your own stories.
It looks like critics’ main complaints are
-
How it’s too similar to 1/2.
-
The story
The second one is pretty subjective. The story hasn’t been amazing so far, but it hasn’t detracted from the games that much. However, Hitman 3 is clearly much more story focused—especially with the last mission—so I worry that a poor story might have a much greater impact.
The first one was coming no matter what. While there is truth in that statement, “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.” The Hitman trilogy has been incrementally enhancing the experience and since the formula and locations are so consistently phenomenal, I couldn’t ask for anything more.
It looks like critics adored everything else though which is good to hear.
Hitman 1’s highest rating on Metacritc was an 87.
Hitman 2 was an 84.
And Hitman 3 just received an 88.
This all very exciting stuff.
Wow, that says that there is a level that is also scripted towards the end! wtf
It looks like the final level is and one section of another level is as well. I’m gonna guess that there’s an aspect of chongqing with an inevitable scripted sequence at the end. Hopefully they can make it skippable like the tornado bunker
There’s one sole factor that will determine if I pick this up right away or put it on my “I’ll get around to it when I get around to it” list:
To what extent do I still have to worry about what I call the “fun police”— the omnipresent personal bodyguards that stick to the targets throughout their routines until you do the right scripted event trigger or lure them away with coins.
They have been an absolute blight on the past two games. I hope that when the reviews talk about unconventional level designs and more emphasis on story, it means that there will be new types of challenges when it comes to isolating targets.
It looks like that will be present. I can’t think of too many targets that don’t have following guards outside of Marrakech, Colorado, Jordan Cross, Rico Delgado, and Maelstrom. All of these targets may as well have had following guards though, since they were always hard to get to and isolate.
I’m sorry to hear this is a dealbreaker for you. I’ve personally felt that the system makes a lot of sense but I do feel it’s a little overdone. I think that’s why I love the Maelstrom so much—it was a really nice change of pace. Luckily it looks like some missions in Hitman 3 like Berlin will shake up this formula.
The Rock Paper Shotgun review states clearly that the scripted story bits in H3 levels are optional after the first playthrough, just like in Colorado.
That is really great news. I hadn’t read that one yet
It’s from the video review. I don’t know if it applies to the final level though, but certainly the rest.
From what we’ve heard about Romania, I doubt there will be any skippable sections since it’s a story focused location
