Best I can do is $1 and a half eaten shoe. Take it or leave it.

Honestly, I want it to do really well so that we get a remaster of H2SA, my fave

Look, i understand that probably better than everyone else here but if we keep buying fucking Blood Money, all they’ll give us will be Blood Money again and again.

3 re-releases is not that bad for an almost 20 year game . i blame most of these re-releases on consoles not having proper backwards compatibility . the pc port has not been updated in years and is probably the best looking and performing version of blood money and i would go as far as saying its the only version that needs an update due to the lack of controller support .

played the switch version for a few minutes . looks like a pretty good port (ive only played it in handheld mode so far) its not that bad in terms of visuals but it could have been better . tried the the new modern controls . if you like modern hitman controls this is for you . its pretty similar to hitman woa L to sprint R for instinct LT to aim (which is the only way you can aim outside of first which is exclusive to this layout) however you do lose some features such as first person the ability to push human shields (you can regain those actions by using the classic layout). the old glitches still seem to exist . was able to bring the tutorial weapons into the hideout using the 2nd container and the detonator glitch still works . this is basically the 360/ps3 version with a few extra features .

The only consoles to not have hardware backwards compatibility are the most recent (PS4/5, Switch, and Xbox One/ X), and even those have “enhanced” backwards compatibility for PS4/ One, or with past gen games via their respective online services with OG Xbox games even able to be inserted and downloaded. and 360 games. In fact, I recall seeing Blood Money on Xbox’s own service back in 2018 back while the re-release of Absolution and Blood Money for PS4/ Xbox One was being released.

The 360 maintained its backwards compatibility with the OG Xbox, the PS2 is compatible with PS1 games, The Wii U was backwards compatible with Wii games, The Wii could play Gamecube games and whatever the Wii Shop Channel had (NES, SNES, SEGA Master System etc.) The 3DS was compatible with DS and DSi Games (and again had some retro system compatibility), the DS was initially compatible with GBA games until the Lite came out (and that was due to the bulky GBA cartridges) and the PS3 was initially backwards compatible with PS2 games AND PS1 games on the older models. Even the Vita was able to play PS1 games as I recall.

So pray tell…how have consoles not had proper backwards compatibility? For the most part, they’re pretty good at it.

Blood Money being re-released and partially revamped to make it more modern-feeling seems to be the primary motivation here, rather than just another remaster for newer systems like they did back in 2018, which were more profit motivated and only really featured upgraded textures. I’m fine with this remaster…thing because it isn’t like the 2018 re-release. There was effort to modernise it and port it to any system that didn’t have it before.

Also, Contracts is a partial remake of the first two games as C47 was not on Consoles. Just thought I’d put that out there.

I like to think this is testing the waters to see if there’s demand for remasters of the older games. With Blood Money being the fan fave, and also the one that needs updating the least, it seems like a reasonable starting point.

I hope they plan on doing more to help keep hitman fans happy while they’re doing Bond stuff

Update their current game and update their PC versions of old games for modern hardware. Easy peazy.

what i mean is backwards compat with the context of blood money rereleases

the ps3 lost disc based ps2 back compat after launch . the ps4 was not compatible with any previous console . the xbox one only got emulated back compat few years after launch .

That only happened once the PS3 slim came out (September 2009, the PS3 OG released at the end of 2006/ start of 2007), and older models can still do it, and you can still buy these second-hand fairly cheaply, and I don’t think Sony ever patched that functionality out.

EDIT: I was wrong about this, See Thrisons’ comment below.

The 360 and PS3 were using dedicated ARM CPU’s, the PS4/5 are using x32, which are based on retail AMD CPU’s – they are completely different CPU architectures, so i’m not surprised it took a while for software emulation to come in. And even in Sony’s case, they seem to favour streaming the games (which, as a side note, you can play PS3 games on PC this way too!)

That’s not “consoles not having proper back-compatibility”, that’s just a side-effect of the progression of technology. Hardware emulation is a big ask once you make beefier and bulkier consoles that change so radically internally. There will always be a market for people to play the classics, something “the big three” all reciprocate, and have taken measures so some level of this is always possible.

PS3 lost physical disc-based PS2 backwards compatibility much earlier than 2009.

The models at November 2006 launch in Japan and North America had hardware based emulation, while the models at Europe/Oceania launch in March 2007 had the PS2 Emotion Engine chip removed to lower production costs and was replaced with partial software emulation. The Europe/Oceania launch model then replaced the original model in North American in August 2007. Then in October and November 2007, Sony rolled out an even newer model worldwide that removed the chip that made the partial software emulation possible to reduce costs further and PS2 backwards compatibility was gone.

It only lasted a year unless you had one of those early consoles and no PlayStation model released since has been able to read PS2 discs. Years later they did eventually end up doing a fully software-based emulation for digital sales though.

I completed “Blood Money Reprisal” to the end on Normal difficulty.
I had a harder time than on PC because I could not execute wires, injections, human shields, etc. from the sneak state using the modern control method.
However, I was generally entertained until I cleared the game.

By the way, I found minor bugs in “Blood Money Reprisal”.
One is a bug in the translation.
It is not reproducible, but the translated text sometimes looks wrong.
In the video below, the “videotape” and “designated elevator floors” are out of order.

The other is that the app crashes when loading saved data in progress.
I don’t know why,I think this is due to the fact that the saved data could not be saved properly.

*addendum
I forgot to mention that there was also a bug where as soon as you change your clothes with “A DANCE WITH THE DEVIL”, it shows “Sighted by Camera”.
This didn’t affect the result, but I don’t like being threatened.

I could not determine if this was a bug or not,
There were more witnesses, even though the tension gauge never went up during the mission.
I don’t think anyone saw it and I am at a loss as to why.
I suspect it may be a glitch.

I don’t want to wish for too much, but it would be nice if it could be fixed.

Funnily enough ALL ps3 models can play Ps1 discs. Only special BC models can play Ps2 games. I think the main differences the original PS3 used hardware instead of emulation built into the system so like imagine PS2 components inside the PlayStation 3 alongside the PS3 components.

Oh yeah! I remember reading about this oddity quite a long time ago. That is just…super weird in hindsight, isn’t it?

Quick question to those who played Reprisal and tried to get Silent Assassin: is it still possible to get SA on Death of a Showman? Spent ages trying to get it with the tweaked mechanics, and I only got professional. Hard to say if I screwed up or it’s just not viable on reprisal.
