And is now canon as of The Splitter ET, since there’s a bit of dialogue that references its location. Prior to that it was all only in the game data.
I’ll be honest, I feel that this video is very incomplete to what I see as my experiences and what people in the fanbase actually feel.
For me the fanbase isn’t being silent on this at all, the memes we make aren’t because we feel it’s just a quirky thing IO are doing. It’s because we feel that as a community when we satirize something it tends to gain more traction as a talking point, and the other way around: a common talking point becomes something we use in our humor.
The reason the Sapienza protest didnt work isn’t because we weren’t loud or disproving of it, it’s because money talks and just like the Part One pack it seems we’re a vocal minority as opposed to the silent majority of players who clearly have bought into this stuff and have made IO money. This is the same reason these news sites didn’t pick up the story like they should, the Sapienza pack coming out isn’t part of their juicy news cycles.
And for me I have to explain that for me I’m not nearly as down on how Hitman is right now because of a specific way I have engaged with the franchise and that is that I got burnt out in the same way you did already and the state of the game right now is to me better than what I felt was the nadir with H3 Year 1. Compared to then, where I felt IO were abandoning their golden goose with mediocre DLC for a disappointing set of maps, I felt that Year’s 2-4 brought back my enthusiasm. So to me I see anything that Hitman gets now is a bonus, that it’s sundowning. I still have my criticisms, to me Freelancer feels like an unofficial fourth installment in the trilogy and thus feels super barebones compared to the richness of 1-3, but that’s just the reason why i’m not angry. I was angry then, i’m not now. I dont think either of us are wrong to be angry or happy with the game at any moment in time, it’s a nuanced thing. Passion can breed hate for what you love and vice versa
I also think with @Combatglue i have to admit a sort of bias that i think he deserves a chance given that i have corresponded with him a few times and he’s been nothing but nice to me and receptive to my ideas. I think that he could do a lot more to engage with the old guard of fans that popular reddit and HMF, but i do understand that Hitman is a complex af game and a lot of MY requests i do a lot to give context to because we have years of knowledge of how things should be done. I still view that as a rookie mistake and that he should engage more with fans who can guide him on stuff but at the same time we need to give context to everything rather than talking like we’d talk to eachother about this stuff
My advice for Combatglue would be to use the discord servers more, because to me that will help us to coach him on how to be the best Hitman community manager he can be because we can get almost instantaneous questions from him as to what we want, what we know and teach him nuances that take years to develop in mere weeks. The thing with Hitman is it’s a game that is difficult to community manage for because u will always know less than ur fans
I also have problems with the way the game is being conducted relative to its success. Hitman is a gem in the AA scene, it seems to only be gettting more and more popular but it’s still being treated as this cult hit that could stop being supported at any time and that to me is weird because Payday 2 and Postal 2 got regular free and paid updates for a decade and yet Hitman can only manage three ETs a year. Huh?
I also think IO as much as they are having success with this DLC model, need to throw us a bone and make efforts to press this down again into something more manageable. Let’s take the Sapienza episode, Part One packs and Celebrity packs as stuff that are too popular to get rid of for IO: that still gives us the Deluxe packs, Freelancer cosmetic packs, Sarajevo Six and Trinity which could be squeezed down into the base game
Ideally, the store page should be this:
Try Hitman
Free Starter Pack: Includes the Tutorial maps
Sapienza episode: Includes Tutorial maps + Story Mission 2: Sapienza
Part One: Includes Tutorial maps + Story Missions 1-6
Buy Hitman
Standard Edition: Every story mission, every escalation, every bonus mission, every sniper map, every special assignment, all in one package
Expand Hitman
Celebrities Pack vol. 1: Drop, Splitter, Undying
Anything that comes after this
That’s my frustration with this. They have the financial success, they have a business model that works, they don’t need to make this totally inconvenient to new players like they’re doing. You can gouge ur players and still have the store page to be coherent to read, dawg
Okay, this is an actual response to the video, so I’ll break my silence to respond to it.
I…didn’t suggest that? In fact, I showed comments displaying precisely this from the subreddit. And later in the video, I even pointed out only the vocal minority will shout the loudest, which again, is why it didn’t get much attention from the press. Not in so many words that you’ve put here, but I thought the implication of silent majority versus vocal minority would’ve been obvious.
The memes we make aren’t because we feel it’s just a quirky thing IO are doing. It’s because we feel that as a community when we satirize something it tends to gain more traction as a talking point
Again, I said almost exactly this in the video. Memes are very useful for satirization and drawing attention to issues, but they should also not be used as a coping mechanism either, which is sort of what it has turned into.
but that’s just the reason why i’m not angry. I was angry then, i’m not now.
I don’t like this game right now because IO are completely dead-set on conning new players and are deliberately stalling. Anger for that kind of behaviour doesn’t tend to subside, at least for me. I left the Payday 2 community because the developers didn’t show players respect after years of…let’s face it…abusing their customer base with their controversial changes (excessive DLC, Microtransations, unfinished console ports, performance problems etc) and still try to act like good guys to the point of being a farce. This mentality also suggests we should just ignore issues after a while, which is also problematic, as that means IO can just wait out anything bad that’s been added to the game. Applying pressure constantly is how we enact change.
i think he deserves a chance
I don’t have a problem with CombatGlue, or Marchouette for that matter. But they seem to have an awful habit of only speaking more openly in DM’s, which, as mentioned in the video, are not public messages, and is one-thread removed from hear-say. Without a public front-facing presence, the PR comes off as confusing and mishandled.
And that’s not going into the inconsistency of their socials. That’s a whole other kettle of fish.
The thing with Hitman is it’s a game that is difficult to community manage for because u will always know less than ur fans
I know I put the clip at the start of the video, and even commented on the situation, but neither of them knowing about Special Assignments is…honestly ludicrous. It’s that kind of behaviour from them that makes me question why we should even ask questions or treat what they do say with any seriousness or credibility.
And the game is easy to get into, but hard to master. It’s not difficult to manage because of the mechanics or gameplay or players knowing more than you, it’s difficult to manage because the PR people just haven’t taken the time to play the game to any large degree to know what the content is, outside of what is on their new-release content sheet. I could be wrong, but that’s the impression I get at least.
I don’t want them to know more about panic distractions, I want them to know more about the internal stuff at IOI or news we could need for content drops. That doesn’t seem like a high bar to reach, and the PR team are not reaching that bar in my opinion.
Standard Edition (All three games, plus NY and HAVEN)
Deluxe Edition (rest of the bonus content)
Free Starter Pack (monthly rotation of locations)
There, it’s not goddamn complicated.
Keeping the Sapienza edition sends a message of complacency that I was talking about. There is no universe in which that is a good compromise for players because it’s inherently a bad deal.
Hope this clarifies my position. Peace out, yo. Viva Medici!
AFAIK they never said they didn’t know what special assignments were, just that they didn’t really understand Fenixsandr’s question (which was translated into English with incorrect syntax so the incomprehension might have come from here). It’s possible they’re aware special assignments exist, but not that we can’t make contracts on these missions yet.
What do you mean exactly by that? What’s inconsistent?
AI generated Diana video some time ago, retweeting Dribble’s video that Sapienza edition is a scam and deleting it a few days later, International women’s day post that used a fake quote taken from top result for query “Diana burnwood quotes”. Examples I’m aware of, I’m not following IOI’s social media too closely because it’s hecking boring.
Wow, wow, wow, wait a minute. Is that what I think it is? Because if it is, JC3 (Just Cause 3) is the only game that beats Hitman in my top favourites. The only vid I have in my channel is about JC3. You gained my ultimate respect.
If it’s not from JC3, then where is it from?
I know this is a bit off topic, but I just had to say it.
it is what it is i guess
It’s one of the best games ever imo. I finished it several years ago, now I’m playing it again to try and get Platinum trophy. I take a great amount of time to complete the missions because I always liberate the entire map firstn do the events, challenges, mostly just mess around with cool cars and stuff. I recommend you buy the Air Land Sea DLC, it’s worth it and connects to the main story!
This is a shit show, so you mean that there will be a “part one: vr edition” on top of the normal part one? Why do you need two part ones?
“This should answer the confusion”
They may as well label “HITMAN World of Assassination: Part One” as “HITMAN World of Assassination: Part One - Part One” now. And make “HITMAN World of Assassination: Part One - Part 2” the VR access.
Makes just as much sense as what they’re doing.
it would still be less confusing
I don’t regard Part One as scummy. Sure, I don’t agree with the base price, I think it should be cheaper considering the content (at least before the VR2 update) is nearly 10 years old now.
It’s a good start for new players who may not want to invest the full amount into getting the entire game, but want to give WoA a go. It has 6 great maps, and it’s the introduction to the story.
Part One should be the starting point for new players (as the name implies), not the Sapienza Edition (which, in my opinion, is scummy) which shoves you into the story at the wrong place.
If IOI want to give players a very low cost introduction into WoA, just make The Showstopper free forever (or make 2016 maps regularly available for free, time-limited, which was previously done), then players can choose to get Part One or Standard after playing it.
I just saw on the Patch Notes that Freelancer and DLCs are not available on PSVR2. Does this mean that Haven and New York are permanently locked off as they’re classed as DLC maps under the game’s ecosystem?
they might just mean DLCs as in Patient Zero and the ET Arcade, because Haven and New York and Ambrose have consistently been part of VR rollout with the exception of H3 Reloaded
edit: there’s gameplay of new york in vr in the reviews and haven in the trailers
turns out new york and haven are definitely playable, probably ambrose too, because there’s gameplay of them in the b-roll and trailers but it’s telling how confusing IOI’s terminology and practices are where the DLC isnt considered DLC even tho it’s sold as such but the extra content for the existing maps is what’s considered DLC
