Instinct could ruin this too
The new ET looks really good. It’s nice to see them shake up the formula - it’s pretty much needed at this point.
Now, about the IGN video:
This ET might actually be the first time WOA has acknowledged that The Institute for Human Betterment did cloning. They avoided ever saying it out loud, sort of retconning it. Cloning perhaps isn’t as cool today as in the late 90s. WOA called it “genetic manipulation”, “experimentation”, “creating super soldiers”.
And with Grey’s looks, it seemed like they let it be ambiguous whether they were just orphans being experimented on and trained or actual clones. Well, ambiguity no more! The old lore is fully restored.
They still aren’t really clarifying that the Institute and the asylum aren’t the same place, but I don’t think that one’s a crucial detail. I actually have some thoughts about what this ET means for the lore of everyone trying to get access to Ort-Meyer’s cloning research that the series had up to WoA, but I think I’ll wait until I play the mission to go over it.
Is this the first time an elusive target has found the ICA before ICA could track him? (not like ICA could, since was presumed dead).
Most of the other ETs are fugitive criminals or very secretive people that have been evading justice until ICA tracked them.
From what I understood he took control of the Chongqing facility and is making demands and we are going in undercover. So the ICA is actually being attacked by the target?
From the description, I think that I would rather welcome this ET in the form of a standard mission.
I am informed about that option, but it is not the same type of content.
I get what you mean. I had the same thought yesterday.
This seems a little over the top for an ET since there is 14 targets - 13 of which will also appear on the minimap as targets (which goes directly against the well established ET “rules”). It feels more a mission idea that would deserve to be fully fleshed out as a Bonus Mission.
What I wonder is if maybe you don’t need to kill all of them, like you pick and choose 5 to kill like the ICA Agents in Berlin. Or, maybe there’s some DNA specific virus to find which lets you kill them all at once. Still seems like quite a lot to do for an ET, especially when going for Silent Assassin.
Of all the ETs, The Splitter seems to be one that would benefit the most from being a Special Assignment instead with challenges to work towards completing and no restrictions.
I assume there’s probably a way to get all/most into the Data Core area, so the “cleansing” fire can do the job. Assuming its still present in this reworking of the Facility of course.
If you do need to eliminate them all, I think it’ll be very interesting to see the speedruns for this one…
I’m guessing that, like in Patient Zero if you kill Owen Cage before he infects everybody and it just stays as the two original targets, if you should take out Valliant before the clones are unveiled, it remains a single-target mission. I highly doubt that, after all the bullshit guff they’ve given us about not bringing The Fixer back because of the premature kills that led to multiple player failures (an argument I will never accept as a valid one for not bringing it back since H2), that they would risk it again that you fail if you kill the target prior to a certain event occurring in the mission (in this case, the reveal of the clones).
Wouldn’t be surprised if there is mission story to take all targets at once.
But even if not, from what we can see from the IGN video, it seems that the clones will be in 4 clusters of 3, plus one doing the split. Or two cluster of 3, one of 6, plus the split.
And it seems that each cluster will have its own multi-elimination opportunity.
- 3 in the gym with Sauna, bench press and drink
- 3 that looks to be near the Break Room, I guess we will be able to poison the ventilation system, I’m actually unsure of his location
- 3 in the new upper core, training room
- 3 in the lower core/server, or maybe it’s a cluster of 6.
- 1 doing the split, to be incinerated
I wonder if some of them could be still physically inactive. If the servers are transformed into a lab/medical…
Like the clones seems to be intentionally at the worst of what the Institute research did on free will and self-survival capabilities.
So they will be like lemmings to manipulate to their death by just asking them nicely.
Design wise, I think each cluster will be able to be manipulated with a specific disguise. Researcher for the gym, orange guard, core engineer and whatnot for the other ones.
Or the Researcher disguise will be a panacea, which could be fun too.
I will stress during the whole ET because of the apparent length, number of steps, and the early restart lock from the first objective onward.
But I don’t think it will be hard, or even punishing. To the contrary.
The Arcade will be there for it.
Knowing myself 1 in 4 rehearsal set in the Arcade will finish with an enforcer, an unknown patrol pattern, an unforeseen bodybag dragging, dropped weapon stocking, or an NPC somehow hearing a noise and walking across the level to see me at the worst place and the worst time.
And then I will be hyper-vigilant about it for the whole proper ET.
Very obviously, there will be a kill opportunity with the clone that does the split: 47 would surely be able to tamper the system, smashing the poor clone.
Moroever, when 47 is watching the clone doing the split, Dr Mei is saying:
which is a clear invitation to 47 for a kill opportunity.
Be funny if 47 just pulls out his pistol and straight up shoots the clone in the dick while it’s doing the split.
I know you’re doing a crass joke.
But I’m actually curious to see how the split animation is blended in.
I kinda suspect that this particular target will stay in place though. But if not I would be even more curious to see the going in and out animations.
Also the end of the IGN video shows a “dismiss” prompt to the observing researcher. So it’s definitively an opportunity.
Silly idea that popped in my head
What if the six clones on the lower level were in cloning vats or other artistic equivalent?
I really do think this is gonna be an Undying situation where it’s gonna handhold the player through the target but also not discourage discovering alternative ways of murder.
Same as in The Disruptor (and The Drop but that had three unguided mission stories because it’s Berlin). It’s made to bring players in, if it’s too hard they’ll quit and won’t buy the game.
