Yeah, I realized this after choosing the pistol headshot - Legendary (or however the objective was called), killing the leader with a pistol headshot and not getting any reward for it. In general, the mode should communicate the nature of these objectives beforehand better… (particularly the new stuff like the Hide & seek or Fast takedown)

Just in an attempt to consolidate a few mentioned issues for @Clemens_IOI , we’ve got:

  1. Having no base payout for completing missions is extremely frustrating. The conditions are labeled as Optional but they are mandatory if you want to be paid. They should be additional Merces on top of the base rate.
  2. Losing so much progress, Merces, and equipment for failing any part of a contract is too punishing. We can complete 15 straight maps and then lose all of it for failing the final contract. It’s too severe.
  3. Alerted territories are too confusing in terms of causes and effects. Is it just getting wounded? Getting spotted? Losing Silent Assassin? Failing? All seem to be potential causes but we aren’t sure.
  4. Objectives have some confusing language. Requirements are buried in the detail descriptions and main-game objectives have different names than Freelancer objectives even though they are the same.
  5. Mastery earned weapons should NEVER be lost, especially if there is no readily apparent way to earn them back.
  6. There are concerns about the number of kills required to earn certain challenges. 10000 kills implies thousands of hours will be required. It’s fine to have hard challenges but that’s just overly “grindy”.

Community, am I forgetting any?

The custom 5mm occupies two gear slots, I think it would be more reasonable to occupy only one, otherwise it will be not be used much.

I think it’s awfully stupid to take away all of my tools for failing a showdown. I don’t bring anything with me in the missions, yet all 3 suitcases were empty after failing. That’s dumb, especially when I didn’t lose any weapons.

Absolutely, I wrote extensively about that:

I’d probably add the thing about being able to identify suspects by whoever we can put in containers or not to this (not sure it can be fixed though), but it seems a pretty solid list otherwise. Oh, and the assorted typos of course, but those are minor issues. There were also a lot of people who disliked timed objectives I think? (but I personally think they’re fine - the disguise / container rushes in particular are a lot of fun, although they’re more suited to some maps than others, and it would be a shame to see them gone)

A few random thoughts about balancing:

  • Losing all your tools upon failing a campaign making it harder to complete poison or explosive based objectives was already mentioned, but an “easy” fix would be to make it so you can’t roll objectives you can’t currently complete because you don’t have the gear to do so. That includes prestige objectives - for example I see a lot of “kill a target with an epic quality weapon” but I currently have none so these are basically wasted every time they appear.

  • Currently it’s way easier to get emetic poison on H1 alerted levels than on their normal version, because those are based on Pro levels from H1 where NPCs held items that were normally found around the levels. So maybe tone down the rats eating everything in regular levels a bit :x

  • Suspects on alerted levels are apparently all super enforcers, and having the whole level go into lockdown just because you happened to get spotted by one of these guys when turning a corner feels a bit excessive to me :x

Is anyone else getting lag and then a crash on the loading screen into the safe house?

OK, this is cool. Once you unlock the vault in your Safehouse, you can use the laptop and “Check stock market”. Doing so will add some merces to your account.

I don´t care much about the safehouse but this is a nice touch.

But you better be careful. You can also lose merces. I pushed my luck too many times. :sob:

I didn’t include the suspects in containers problem because that’s a core game mechanic too so I assume it’s just part of the game.

The timed objectives can be selected or not based on player preference so I figured that was fine too.

I do agree on some points made here about losing items. There is no logical reason that you should lose items you didn’t bring with you, even if you fail the campaign. Items in the SAFEhouse should be SAFE!

Absolutely agree on the super-enforcers. They’re too super and it’s just too easy to get instantly spotted by a wandering suspect or their guard. The suspects also have absolute carte blanche on where they go and it’s frustrating to have to not only follow them but avoid trespassing zones, enforcers, random NPCs and tag with the camera - too prone to accidentally getting spotted and then all hell breaks loose. This needs to be toned down a bit.

Honestly the dynamic safehouse interactions are so cool to see and make me even more excited for the future of the mode and the franchise in general.

I can’t imagine what the next game will be like with these kinds of features built in from the ground up

Changing a day time with whole lighting or new music this is a hudge work and is quite expensive. Making a totally new lighting for location is a complex task. They won’t do this for sure.

I think it is possible to increase the AI of assassins, like Molly Misfortune. We need a deadly stalker. She or he cannot be knocked out or eliminated, and she or he can be anyone even a guard, just like 47 is a master of disguise, rather than a character like a high-level bodyguard following the NPCs.

You get money only for bonus obiectives. The amount above is just a summary. So if you done both its 20 +25 = 45. If you don’t make any obiective beside killing targets and complete mission = 0 money. I know it’s bad but how it works now.

My impressions so far:

Overall pretty good and entertaining, it forces you to play differently and try different things with more pressure than the contracts mode, at least for me.

There are a couple of things that I find confusing, for example that some objectives are not updated during the mission and it is not possible to know their status until the end of the mission (it happened to me with the “do not blow your disguise”, I thought it was fine but it didn’t update the status until the end of the mission).

Also I would like to know what the prestige objectives consist of before choosing them, the name on many of them seems a bit vague to me and it is only possible to know what they are about after choosing them. I don’t know if this is the intention.

The game has frozen trying to load the safehouse just after finishing a mission but to my surprise, when I re-entered the game it saved my progress and I was able to continue with the progress intact.

I’m probably forgetting a few more things but they’ve surely been mentioned already.

The prestige objectives do NOT make it clear that it gives some kind of timer, otherwise you fail the mission. The descriptions of prestige objectives needs to be more clear.

Funny you should say that…

Yeah, let’s just say I wasn’t fecking happy about the loss.

I do think it would be good to see exactly what the objectives mean before you pick one but all the timed ones I’ve encountered have said “timed”

But “timed” by itself is too ambiguous a term, especially since the timer I had was two and a half minutes; which forced me to take needless risks to restart the countdown.

Luckily I know Mendoza pretty well, but that’s besides the point.

All in all Freelancer works really great. But there are a few bugs, that I want to mention, so that they can get fixed until launch.

Most annoyingly, I had two instances where I threw the ICA titanium crowbar at someone’s head to knock them out and afterwards the crowbar vanished from the map. It should’ve been lying on the ground, but instead it was gone.

Once after returning to the safehouse from a mission, the whole screen was black. The only thing that I could see were the prompts in the safehouse (for example for prestigious objectives). After going back to the main menu and returning, everything was normal again.

Finally, I noticed some typos.

I took “timed - get disguises”, but then when I read the description it sounded annoying so I didn’t do it. It only fails the objective, not the mission. There will always be more merces!
