Player-Made Elusive Contracts (All Platforms)

I agree, very nice run, sad that NPC icons were on.

Thank you @Beldingford !

Despite me literally rewriting the rules in the OP and playing in this thread for years I don’t think I’ve ever once turned off NPC icons (my bad) while playing these contracts. I don’t think it offers a major gameplay difference, it just helps you from ruining a whole run by running past someone you didn’t know was an enforcer. And it certainly doesn’t add to the whole ā€˜elusive targetness’ of it all

Personally I’d like to strike that rule, so I’ll ask

Should we be allowed to leave NPC icons on?

i ever played these contracts with npc icons off but i agree with you, for me it’s a little frustrating being spotted by a random someone and you basically have no clue to understand if a man is a enforcer or not unless you know the map a lot.

I love all the other rules because you can have a workaround for no minimaps or no istinct but no npc icons it’s just tedious sometimes, so if this rule will be cancelled im going to play right from this contract tomoroww leaving npc icon on.

ā€œDespite me literally rewriting the rules in the OP and playing in this thread for years I don’t think I’ve ever once turned off NPC icons (my bad)ā€

I… I feel so…So betrayed.
What’s even real anymore?

Seriously though it’s your thread so you can make the rules as you wish. A vote’s a good idea though.

I guess people can choose whether they have them on or not though as it’s a personal restriction. As I’ve been playing with them off in the main game anyway I might stick to @David47 's original rules :slightly_smiling_face:

Not really, I just reposted. I’d say David has final say but I’d also like to see what people’s opinions are

No problem, looking forward to playing the next one!

How in the world did I miss this?

(I’d vote for leaving Icons on, since some NPCs you really don’t see coming as an enforcer, but it does add to the challenge and ā€œoh shit gotta break line of sight and not get arrestedā€ moments. idk im okay with either, one just significantly reduces the challenge of enforcers)

Removing the mini-map and instinct is completely fair and simply adds more challenge, but removing the NPC icons is more like ā€œyou have to know all enforcers in advance or you might lose your SA for just running past a wrong personā€. Noticed that with my contract in Berlin because the bouncer at the club door is an enforcer to staff disguises. If you decide to exit through the main door you’ll lose your SA just because you didn’t know that, which is bullshit. In that situation even being careful doesn’t help at all. So I’m all for leaving them on.

 Biggest scandal in Hitman Forum history, for sure.

I appreciate that, Contractor, but I feel as though you, @TheChicken (and the community at large, frankly) have long since taken joint custody of my (brain)child. lol

As to the issue in question: I’ve always felt, and still feel, that playing without NPC icons is fundamental to the experience.

The original point of the contest was realism, simulation … and 47 not knowing, through some magical sixth sense, who was a threat and who wasn’t was a part of that. There are still ways for 47 to identify enforcers, and our familiarity with the location and its enforcers grows naturally as we replay the levels.

I realize these rules can occasionally be frustrating, because they introduce an element of chance. I don’t deny that. But I feel the benefits of a tense and enthralling experience outweigh the negatives of being blindsided now and again and losing one’s perfect score.

This isn’t the contest of perfect scores. Leave your perfect scores and your pride at the door. This is the contest of appreciating that being the world’s best hitman ain’t easy. lol

That’s my case … but I seriously don’t want to discourage you guys from changing the rules if that’s what the majority of you want. Everyone having fun is the top priority.

After all …

I love democracy. I love this forum. The power you gave me I did lay down before this crisis was initiated. And my first act without this authority is to create a GRAND ARMY OF THE REPUBLIC to enforce my rules–

EmperorPalps

Wait, wait … my bad.

And my first act without this authority is to give power back to you … the people.

Phew. The mask almost slipped. :innocent:

Im ok with both decisions it’s just that sometimes npc icons doesn’t seems fair like I said you have clues to all other things even without mini maps or instinct but with NPCs you can never say if one is a enforcer or not and I personally had the same case of @Beldingford in Berlin with the enforcer at the entrance door we had no clues if that was an enforcer or not… however not because low score I always do one and only run of these contracts so and don’t mind the score because that isn’t the point of this friendly competition and like I said I’m ok with both rules just tell me if I have to play this contract with icons off or not because I’m going to play it later…

Okay well seeing as there is some debate (the poll is near split) I’m going to leave the OP as is, and I’ll start playing by the rules :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Like I mentioned in my above post I’ve been playing HITMAN 3 with the npc dots off.

In the prior two games I’d go back and forth between thinking it was an unfair system to wanting no help.

What finally switched me to No npc dots was using the mantra ā€œWhat would 47 do?ā€

I feel like he wouldn’t get too close to anyone regardless of disguise & that they’re not to fool(up close) but to blend in(from a distance)

Following this idea I’ve managed to successfully navigate the first five levels as a Silent Assassin without any hud.

It is surprising how quickly you learn which non player characters are enforcers & which aren’t. Even to which disguises they’re enforcers.

I think though it could quite easily work on a contract by contract basis or it could be up to the player if they decide they want an extra challenge.

I’m just in it for the fun anyway & if people are having fun playing these that’s cool.:slightly_smiling_face:

Lance Armstrong has posters of The Contractor on his bedroom wall. He can only aspire to your levels of treachery in his wildest dreams. You cheat without knowing you’re cheating. That’s some next-level deception. You can pass any lie-detector test. lol

(Just messin’.)

Yeah, that’s my experience, too.

I’ve played without NPC icons since Sapienza in Hitman 1. I’m hard-wired to be suspicious of everyone. So running around without the fear of imminent detection and death would be bizarre for me.

But, again, if people really want to change the rules, I’m absolutely fine with it.

Maybe hold another poll in a week or two to see if the results are more decisive.

P.S. Just reposting @mijlobbetiw’s cool-looking CONTRACT (below), because it’s gotten a little buried with this rules discussion:

My internet is back, so I present to you:

The Florists

Good Afternoon. Three members of the gardening company Green Seed
seem to have dabbled in chemistry lately. They have created a device
that can convert the Green Seed's signature flower into a very lethal
poison, which they sell on the black market. Of course, when the
board of Green Seed found out, they were terminated to prevent scandals,
but they have escaped with the device in hand to the companý's latest assignment,
even taking some flowers along. The company asks us for a more permanent solution,
making their deaths seem like accidents, with the exception of the inventor of the
device Oscar Walsh, whose death has to be more poetic. The device must of course
also be destroyed.
Good luck agent.

Special conditions :

  1. Oscar Walsh must be killed by his own poison (i.e. by the poison that you can make in the greenhouse in the back yard). As this can hardly be enforced if you do not want to record your run, just play fair :stuck_out_tongue:
  2. You must take a photograph of the destroyed device with your camera. (If you don’t want to make a video of a run, just screenshot the photo when you took it. The game is ā€œfrozenā€ after you take a picture, so you have all the time in the world to take the screenshot). Here, the device is the broken lab equipment that you use to make the poison (yeah, it is already broken, but make sure they can not fix it  . I think you can break the device in many ways, but I did not test them all). (NOTE: DO NOT DESTROY THE DEVICE BEFORE CRAFTING THE POISON, OR YOU WILL FAIL CONDITION 1 BY DEFAULT)

I hope the contract is enjoyable to you all. I tried to do something special with the new camera, but it is very experimental and I’ll have to see how it works out. Any loadout should be fine, the tools for success are all in the map. As this is my first serious contract, there are probably some flaws, feedback is therefore very welcome.

Also I know the story contradicts the canon slightly, but whatever.

Contract info (DON’T LOOK UNLESS YOU WANT TO RECREATE):

The contract is Suit Only (no disguise changes)
Oscar Walsh: The gardener at the greenhouse, drinks water. Consumed Poison
Ellen Moss: Is working on a lawnmower around the family grave. Accident (any)
Halle Davidson: To your left just after crossing the bridge by the front gate. Accident (any)

P.P.S. Sorry, I don’t know why some of the writing in the briefing turned red when I copied and pasted it. I’ve tried, but I can’t change it. lol

Allright so i followed all the rules. My score is 85.474

Very enjoyable contract and however thinking about it more i think the right thing is leaving the icons off because even if sometimes is unfair its true that add that level of tension and uncertainity that is good in these contracts, its all about strategy not the best timing so it’s best like this.

However i noticed something strange in my run and score i hope someonce will help me viewing my run because i’ve completed all the optional objective (maybe one not in the intended way) but at the end of the mission even if all objectives was completed i lost the bonus points even if i obtained silent assassin, it’s very weird becaue i respected all the kill condition, i hope someone can see if the game is bugged or i made something wrong.

Sorry for the lower quality but my internet was experiencing some connection problems while uploading

Poison isn’t an ā€œaccident killā€ even though it works similarly. That means the syringe kill failed the condition.

Ahh alright i know that sometimes the accidents conditions changed throughout the trilogy but i was sure that we was at the point now poison worked like normal accidents fot the no bodies found well i must had some kind of lapsus and i made this mistake… there s ever somethingto learn in this game.

Yeah I think in early H2016 poisoned bodies getting found failed SA, but that hasn’t been a thing since that era. However I don’t think that poison kills have ever counted as ā€œaccidentsā€ in the contracts mode.

yes it’s fine my mistake then.
iƬll retry in the next contract

Rules followed.

I was a bit apprehensive when I saw it was Suit Only, since I’m still learning the finer details of the new maps, but keeping the targets outside of the house was helpful. :+1:

Yeah, poison kills work the same way as accidents, where their body can be found but you don’t lose points.
However, they’re in their own class of ā€œPoison Killsā€.
