I dabbled in VR when it first came out, but then shortly moved and didn’t bring the system with me for about 7 months… so lately I’ve jumped back into VR and here are some of the details I’ve noticed:
I noticed today that it reads “fumigation unit”. Is there actually some room that you can fumigate or is it just a normal generator for distracting the guard standing in the background?
The empty click reminded me of MGS, and I never considered the noise factor (since in VR you have to manually hit reload versus not being empty until you are completely out).
As far as the ladders, I noticed that there were a few around the whole building… that I’ve never noticed. It’s the only map altering that I’ve noticed at all.
Usually in VR the map is the same and sliding and climbing are the same, just first person point of view. (If that answers your question)
if you schedule Rolf Hirschmuller‘s meeting, knock him out, and then hide, the agents will arrive and look for 47. one of them even says “come out, ‘Rolf’,” or “you don’t have to hide”. if you still remain in hiding too long, they’ll go hostile instantly. it makes sense for this dialogue to exist, but accidentally stumbling upon it was cool!
I mean that was the obvious answer, but @TheChicken asked what happens to “other sliding ledge areas in VR” and @Morty7 said the maps are usually the same, implying these additions to Paris are an exception. That’s the part of the conversation I was responding to.
NPCs can also hear these empty magazine ‘clicks’ through walls by the way.Not very useful in general, but there are some particular situations in which it can be really helpful. For example, this can be used in A house built on sand to lure Kong in the bathroom.
These alterations to Paris were something I haven’t noticed on any other map. I’ll try to pay more attention… but I feel like they were out there to make the level more accessible as a beginning level for new players.
I did read about how they altered levels for VR but i thought they meant they did it within the base game. No idea that the levels themselves are like a seperate version when in VR
Wait a minute, that last picture is supposed to have a pipe on the building edge… yet its not there.
I assume other levels still have climbable pipes intact, so I wonder why Paris doesn’t.
Maybe Paris was one of the first levels they tested VR on, and they either forgot or decided to keep the scaffolding changes to serve as an easier climbing tutorial for the level.
God, I wanna tag IOI so bad with a question, but I don’t know who’s VR savvy over there…
edit: Alright, here goes…
The lead VR track owner is Eskil Møhl, @E-mol
If he can’t come to the forums right now, @Clemens_IOI could you maybe investigate a bit into why Paris was changed in this way? I think it’s an interesting design change that’s gone overlooked & unmentioned.
Yeah Paris was the very first level they tried VR on, we have proofs as far as Hitman 2, would make some sense that this level has changes other levels don’t have (yet?)
I wonder if the redevelopment of Battersea Power Station and the surrounding Nine Elms area was a factor in moving away from this concept? I feel this could be likely given the intention for HITMAN (2016) to continue over multiple seasons. Battersea looks very different today compared with 5 years ago.
Here’s how Battersea looked up until 2013, before the start of construction work.
