Yeah, I don’t even really know what else they’re changing about the main characters. My favorite was always between Wesker and Claire, and last year when they revealed this change they’d made to Wesker, I already knew that this version was going to be extremely different. And while that might not necessarily be a bad thing, the fact that nobody ever gets it right with video games (Sonic and Detective Pikachu being mild exceptions), I doubt they’ll strike gold on this one too if they’re going this far afield. The only thing that never seems to change when adapting RE is Umbrella, and at least that’s a good thing.

No Star Trek is better than DS9. Although TNG characters are mostly better.

I’d put DS9 characters up against TNG any day. Sure, Picard and Data are top-tier, but overall, DS9’s characters are better. And if you add in recurring characters, it’s not even close.

Plus, DS9 has the superior Worf.

I’ll volunteer to be the voice of dissent here then. I haven’t watched all of DS9. It’s the only show aside from the animated ones that I haven’t been able to sit through. I saw most of the first season, part of the second, and never bothered to watch the rest. Is it good? Not from what I saw, but I haven’t see all of it. Maybe it got better later?

Also, I did say “One of”… not the.

It definitely got better. Most Trek series are kinda “meh” in their first two seasons, and then go off like a rocket. DS9 exemplifies that, and becomes the best storyline in Trek history this far.

I’ve got to be honest, my stupid brain didn’t even register the “one of”. I blame the heat. :laughing:

And I’ve always liked the first couple of seasons more than most, but when the Dominion is introduced in the season two finale, it really focuses the show and gives it momentum that carries over the next five seasons.

I’d say the show “gets good” in Series 3-6. Series 7 is good but you can feel the fatigue start to set in, not to mention teething problems with a new cast member.

It’ll be good to get Paramount Plus in the UK next month. I want to watch Strange New Worlds and Prodigy, I’m hearing positive things about them. Lower Decks is a fun time, can’t wait for Season 3 in September or October, presumably. Need to give Picard a shot, but to be honest, everytime I hear a spoiler from that show, I get the feeling it isn’t my thing. Watched the first 2 seasons of Discovery. Disco at this point just seems happy to do its own thing, much to the happiness of that show’s fans and to the chargrin of its critics. I’ll probably catch up on it out of obligation but still never really like it.

I’ve seen both seasons of Picard. Liked them, but it’s not the best Trek available for sure. It’s nostalgic more than anything. Season 3 has most of the cast of TNG so it’ll be more of that nostalgia.

The best thing Discovery did was get out of the TOS era and jump forward to a time when it didn’t matter what they did in terms of continuity. It was getting really obvious that they had to give some sort of reason for never having been mentioned before.

Strange New Worlds I’m really enjoying. There have only been two episodes so far but the cast and writing is pretty solid so far.

The Kids in the Hall is back, and it’s still great. If you remember the original version, you’ll love the revisit. If not, you probably will too.

Last night I started to rewatch the first season of DS9. The forum seems to be in agreement that it gets a lot better after season 2. Can I just skip the rest of seasons 1 and 2 and jump right to Season 3? Will I be missing anything important?

Been a while since I watched DS9. Just glancing through the episode list, I would say you should watch the last episode of Series 2, “The Jem’Hadar”. It’s not a very good episode but it basically introduces the Dominion, who will be key players for the rest of the series. I think the only other one that matters is Series 2 Episodes 20 and 21, “The Maquis” two parter. This introduces The Maquis, who get there own storyline that comes up throughout the series, although not as big as the Dominion is, and I think it is a pretty good two parter. There is also Series 2 Episode 23 “Crossover”, the episode to introduce DS9’s forrays into the Mirror Universe. Every Series barring the first has a Mirror Universe episode, but honestly the Mirror Universe episodes seem to honestly get worse and worse each time.

So yeah, that would be my own recommendation, those 3 episodes, 4 if your interested in DS9’s Mirror Universe.

Technically, the Maquis were introduced in TNG and DS9 around the same time. They show up in TNG’s 7th season, around the same time as DS9’s 2nd season, and Voyager started airing right after TNG’s 7th and last season wrapped up. So in a way at the time, it was a bit of a big thing in the Trek universe at the time I imagine.

That sounds right. I remember being annoyed at the Seska-heavy episodes of Voyager because she was an annoying character. Ensign Ro in TNG was integral to the Maquis plots too, right?

I think only at the end in the episode when she left? I can’t remember to be honest. The Maquis were a far bigger thing in DS9 and Voyager. I think TNG only dedicated 2 or 3 episodes to them in the last season and that was it.

Do a google search for seasons 1 and 2 for any episodes that mention Maquis, Dominion, or Gul Dukat. All very important to the overall series. After that, from S3 on, it’s almost all story arc.

Tonight I finished Russian Doll Season 2.

I can say this right out of the gate that it’s not as good as Season 1, plot-wise. It’s still good though, at least I think so.

The plot of the season doesn’t have much of an engaging hook as the last one did, and it slowly unravels a very long, complex mystery. There’s a great payoff at the end, thematically, that further enriches its main character, but I do think it takes a bit too long to get to that point.
Also Alan is practically an afterthought for the writers in this season and I find that sad. His side-plot has very little relevance on Nadia’s main plot, which is odd since they both had a great intertwining one last time around.

The trailers definitely made me think it would be a lot crazier and metaphysical than it actually was – that only happens in the last two episodes, but those two episodes are very interesting.
What we get instead for most of the season is a ‘Back to the Future’ style dual timelines plot.
It was engaging when it moved the story along, but it is a lot more laid back in pacing than Season 1.

While this show did blow up a ton when it first came out and has since gained a big cult following, I think they leaned way too into references from the first Season.
As someone who just watched S1 a few weeks before S2 (and seen it a few times before that), I picked up a lot of references and iconic lines from its past. But it was a lot. Too many times I’d (mentally) point at the screen, catching something I recognized… but that’s all those lines are for, and it felt way too much like fanservice for the sake of it.

Another thing: They definitely crank up the Nadia-isms in this season, and way too much for my liking.

Most of the show, she’s stuck in the past, inhabiting her Mom’s body, while spouting at the mouth a bunch of modern references, one-liners, or referencing her unexplainable body-snatcher scenario. Yes, her mother has mental illness, so they probably wouldn’t take these strange anecdotes too seriously, but it felt very needless, script-wise.

Also, there comes a point where she’s in 1940s Budapest, being chased by Nazis, and – as a Jewish woman – asking an Orthodox priest for help, starts joking around about Schindler’s List. Umm… time and place, Nadia? You’re acting really crazy here.

Overall, by the end, they paint a very introspective and reflective piece on Nadia Vulvokov, her past, her trauma, and how she has to live with it, it’s just how it gets there that lacks that energy. Feels a bit more aimless.

Here’s hoping Season 3 can give us a bit more resolution on Alan. I feel like he has unfinished business now too.

If you haven’t watched Season 1, please do. It’s a really well-oiled machine. If a bit weary with its specific cinematic, literary, and US-centric references in dialogue, but the main stuff is fantastic.

Okay, yeah, I’m all for increasing the maturity of children’s programming, and I know that children are more mature than society gives them credit for. It’s just weird that the ratings board in charge somehow gave this show such a low rating. Not even G or PG. Lower than that. Cool.

Essentially, the show is about a Horse from a warn-torn land thrown into this very colourful, musical world full of centaurs, and must find a way back to her Rider.
The show has plenty of very strange, questionable moments of “are they allowed to say that?” and deals with some dark themes and imagery much later on.

It does get caught up in its own juvenile childish antics sometimes, but overall it is a bonkers show with dark maturity and themes, ending with a 75-minute epic finale that is jaw-dropping.
The music is fun and pretty catchy, with each episode featuring about 3 songs. And the voice talent lends some great emotion and depth to the characters, whether it’s the headstrong and war-weary Horse (Kimiko Glenn), or the adoptive-overprotective-mother-figure Wammawink (Meghan Hilty).

Now that I’m done this, I’ll probably jump into Netflix’s Dogs in Space, to fill that childlike cartoon void.
William Jackson Harper (Chidi, The Good Place) is in it, and I don’t see enough of that guy. Should be fun.
