Season 3 starts June 10. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Between this and The Orville (and Strange New Worlds when I get around to getting Paramount+ for a month), I’m going to be in nerd heaven.

Was trying to figure out why I’d never heard of this…then I realized it was on Apple. Not for me.

Burning through 1983 on Netflix right now. It’s in polish originally so I’m reading subtitles. It’s really interesting. It’s alternate historical fiction I guess. It’s set in 2003 where the Soviet Union hasn’t fallen but Poland is not so much under their control anymore, but Poland is run by one almighty party and it goes from there. There was a giant bombing in ‘83 that the party used to gain near total control and everything else is pretty much as it is in real life. I don’t want to give a lot away, but I’m really enjoying it. Lots of leaning on Orwell’s 1984. Worth your time for sure.

I don’t really think that’s a good choice in tv… over 2 hours?

I’ve heard that each episode in Season 4 is gonna be about feature length as well. Like, at least an hour long each.
Time will tell if this pays off. That article mentions the plot is “quadruple what we had in Season 3” and they’re “revealing a lot” in preparation for Season 5 ending it all.

I already thought Season 3 got a little bit too big in scope and group antics, so maybe they’ll have figured out how to make it work in this one.

Reminds me of that joke of how nobody would want to watch a movie that’s 10 hours long but they wouldn’t have a problem binge watching 10, 1 hour long episodes in one sitting.

In other TV stuff…

Netflix just posted the full Three Robots sequel short on Youtube. Cool, glad they’re giving that more exposure. I can wait till Friday to watch the thing for real though. It’s so close!

There’s also the announcement of… what the hell??

If you wanna see Sean Bean as a character named Mark , “Time” is a pretty interesting story in 4 ep. about a teacher who becomes prisoner.

Umbrella Academy Season 3 looking crazy and fun.

Also, I think they shifted the date up? I was sure it was supposed to come out first week of July. Now it’s June 22.

On another note, the chapters will be 7/2. 9 hours for the first 7 and 4 hours for the latter 2 episodes, with the finale being 2.5 hours.

How good is Stranger Things? I tried to watch the first season and got through maybe half of it before giving up. I just wasn’t engaged and didn’t find it interesting at all. I also have a big problem with child actors and this show was full of them. Do you think the subsequent seasons were better than the first one?

No.

Season 1 was great. Season 2 was pretty good. Season 3 was all over the place. And, personally, the fact that they have bloated episode lengths including a couple of 2 hour episodes in season 4 has evaporated what little interest I had in watching it. (Either they’re trying to save money by not paying the actors and crew for extra episodes or they’re in serious need of an editor. Probably both.)

What was wrong with season 3?

It wasn’t necessarily “bad”. The main point many may say is that it was in a different, more colorful and cheerful theme for most parts unlike the first 2. Season 1 for instance was the one with the thickest horror theme yet.

Lack of editors? I doubt. Money? Probably. The season has reportedly costed 270m.

@schatenjager if you didn’t enjoy season 1 I doubt you’ll ever the rest of it.

I appreciate that. Not everything is for everyone, and that’s ok.

Well hell, that’s the trope Hope Spot. It looks like things are good and then nooooope! While 3 wasn’t my favorite, I didn’t dislike really anything about it at all, and never understood people’s issues with the characters for that season. Well, other than Eleven being a bitch to Mike for a few episodes, but I chalked that up to her just being a teen.

Again, not bad, just different. Seems they wanted to show some dumb happy teenage scenes just to have it in between the final dark portion of it.

And with that, I’ve kicked off my watching of Season 3 of Barry with my dad.

As far as this first episode goes, it’s great. Uncomfortable most of the time, but great.
We liked it, though needed to consult a recap beforehand. It’s been a while.

Barry is at his literal wit’s end, back in his dark, depressed hitman state of Season 1, hallucinating death now
while Sally is facing the struggles of grasping at coattails of success,
And NoHo Hank is trying to get away from eeeeverything.

Really nice opening episode here. Very interested and afraid in how it might set up future events. Pretty nerve-racking at times. They’ve still got that cinematic style and comedy wit too!
