TV Show Discussion Thread

I’ve been watching Taskmaster. It’s just a nice, fun, relaxing show to watch. The current Series, Series 13, might be the best one so far. All 5 contestants are fantastic and bring their own energy to the show, and it mixes extremely well. Been watching some of the older series too, Series 1-8 are all available for free on their official Youtube channel.

I liked season 1 but I’m still trying to figure out what all the hype was about. I was late to the party (and still haven’t watched season 2) so maybe it was hyped to death by the time I got to it. It’s starting to sound like it was eighties nostalgia… :man_shrugging:

Anyway, I actually came here to talk about Moon Knight. Oscar Isaac was fantastic and I’m a sucker for nearly anything to do with Ancient Egypt so points all around. It was a great, if (intentionally) confusing, time and I look forward to whatever the character’s next adventure may be and whatever form that may take in the MCU.

I’m probably a minorty opinion that enjoyed Season 2 more than any of the other seasons.

Season 1 definitely stands out from any of the other seasons, by being a period horror/mystery with light sci-fi elements.

Season 2 goes full homage to Posession horror movies, centering around Will’s plight with being infected by the Upside Down. I really enjoyed it, and thought they played up the spooky aspect well. (And enjoyed his acting with it.)

Season 3 goes even further, to the point where it really starts to lose its realism and grounded-ness, intertwining plots of a Cold War scare, an Invasion of Body-Snatchers homage, a 80’s nostalgia-filled Mall location, with an extremely large group of key players.

I kinda fear that Season 4 is going to be too much. Eirher in characters, plot juggling, or even amount of content.
Hopefully the longer episodes can keep pacing stable and not too hectic, but I have some doubts. Especially how how much world-building we might be getting, further complicating the world.

Nostalgia is a huge factor.

Stranger Things is a throwback to the 80’s (movies, music, and culture) and specifically kid adventure/fantasy flicks that were big then like Stand By Me, The Goonies, Explorers, The Never-Ending Story, etc.

If you didn’t grow up in that decade, you kinda miss out on that aspect.

The two biggest etc.es being E.T., and IT. Lot of feeling of those two stories as well.

Basically, Stranger Things is a modern retelling of the “Kids with an extraordinary secret that adults wouldn’t understand and would corrupt if they knew about it” kind of storytelling, but as a period piece set in the 80s at the height of the Cold War.

Back when being grounded was actually a punishment. :joy: :joy:

In that case I’m even more surprised that I didn’t like it because the 80s is the decade I grew up in. I was born in the 70s, but I grew up in the 80s. Those movies were my upbringing.

A huge portion of the characters they introduced for season 4 are puppets that die for the sake of story’s progress, some of dying real fast. Plus the fact that they now are in 3 different locations, which requires temporary characters. They just tried to introduce as many of them as possible.

They’ve done studies, you know. 60 percent of the time, it works every time.

You mean season 3 right?

Unless you’re from the future…

The year is 2063. The last remnants of civilization stand in front of their last chance of survival: the Ark, an experimental time machine.

“Are we really doing this!?”

“You got a better idea?”

After months of desperately scavenging whatever resources they could find to power up the Ark, the time had finally come.

“We good to go?”

“Good to go!”

“Fire it up.”

The dilapidated lab shook and rumbled, dust particles filling the air as the derelict Ark powered on. The sound of its mechanical insides coming back to life reverberated off of every wall.

“You ready?”

“I don’t think anybody could be ready for this.”

“You were chosen for a reason. Warn them. Make them listen. It’s the only way to stop this.”

Hichkas entered the Ark, the human embodiment of a Hail Mary.

“05/21/2022 locked in.”

“Godspeed.”

“3… 2… 1… GO!”

The Ark roared louder than a thousand lions asserting dominion over their lands. It was deafening, but it was also a bizarre symphony of hope. And with a final, blinding flash of light, Hichkas was gone.

“Godspeed.”

Nah just found a leak source in which things like Vecna were described in detail months before the official announcement. The description turned out to be exactly the same so, I guess I didn’t need to go to the future lol

:grimacing: oh. Might want to spoiler tag that then.
Though I can’t say I’m surprised that’s what’s going to happen.

Y’know what, Vecna sounds awfully familiar, but I haven’t seen any leaks myself about it.

I think it must have been mentioned in the Far Cry 6 Crossover DLC I played a few months back! Neat.

It’s an iteration of a D&D character, and his visualization resembles (as it was inspired by) Freddy Krueger. Might be due to either of them if you are a fan those.

Holy Mary of God, Better Call Saul just surpassed the shock value of Breaking Bad’s best episode with this mid-season finale. The episode itself might not necessarily be better than that one, but the shock of the twist just took the crown from the original show.

Barry Season 3 really is fucking daaaaaark

Episode 2 is just aaaagh jeeeeez nooooo
Bill Hader is fucking scaaaary
So many uncomfy vibes from a few plot threads

At least the dark humour and surreal humour is top-notch fun. Silly Chechen mobsters in a Hollywood tour bus! Out of touch-executives! Random stranger ordering milk at dinner, and that makes his date mad! Wooo :milk_glass:

I just watched it. I was shocked with how it ended.

We just started Love on the Spectrum US. It’s just as good as the two Aussie seasons. I can’t believe I’m hooked on a reality show (you may all make tons of fun of me :joy:), but I love it.

Also if anyone watches is and can tell me who Steve sounds like, I’ll love you forever; it’s driving me nuts!!!
