Upcoming Video Games

Yeah, so watched that Borderlands 4 State of Play. I feel mostly positive about it. The game does look gorgeous. Guns look good. I think the decision to set the game on a new planet, rather than Pandora again or try and do multiple planets like BL3 is a good idea, it feels like a bit more of a clean break from past games, even if some characters will come back. All the movement abilities look fun to use.

Negatives. Really not a fan of the game having 4 “zones”, as they call them. Really it looks like they will be 4 decently sized open world sections, complete with lots of secondary objectives, random events, collectibles etc. I can’t say I have any real interest in Borderlands becoming more like a Ubisoft title. There are still dungeons apparently, and the gameplay showed a linear section, so hopefully not too much open world wandering or mindless checklists.

As for the story mission they showed, well… (Borderlands 3 spoilers) I guess Lilith is alive? I never played the BL3 DLCs, so was it confirmed there? Granted, I kinda guessed considering there was no body when she supposedly died in BL3. But jeez, after how much BL3 gushed about Lilith, I really hope she’s not so prominent in BL4, otherwise she really does risk becoming the Poochie of the series.

Cautiously optimistic. Will keep an eye on this.

How could you play Borderlands 3 and think they were actually going to reveal that she was still alive? The game almost immediately teases the possibility of it as soon as you enter the post game.

It’s been years since I’ve played BL3, and honest to god, I barely remember most of it. The only strong member is me being still bitter about Maya being killed off. I don’t dislike Lilith, but Maya was my favourite Vault Hunter, and it seemed like the BL3 writers loved Lilith, and clearly didn’t care much for Maya. Saying that, I kinda figured Lilith was alive, considering there is no body, and BL3 establishes that when a Siren dies, they can transfer their power to another woman, which doesn’t happen when Lilith supposedly died.

I am still bitter about it so much so I don’t need to unblur the spoiler text to read it and know what you are talking about. It doesn’t help that they were going to actually explore the impact of that event more, handle Ava’s reaction to it better and give it all a proper closure but then they didn’t do it despite them actually working on it enough that there were animatics and stuff.

Oh man, I’m shocked, stunned, and need to pick my jaw off the floor! Who could have possibly seen this coming?

Such an odd decision to drop a release date in a fucking tweet lmfao. I don’t mind a delay but the lack of fanfare is funny. At least share some screens or a snippet. Anything really.

Also, maybe it wasn’t a good idea to have the CEO of Take-2 giving interviews and saying shit like “it’s on schedule”. Dumb all around.

A promotional shot from THPS3+4 has confirmed Bob Burnquist’s return. Burnquist was in every Neversoft Tony Hawk game except for THPS3 which has a level set in his home country of Brazil.

It also confirms the existence of Shipyard, the penultimate level of THPS4 (so long as you aren’t counting the two secret levels), which had not made an appearance in any promotional material.

Additionally it seems like the level is actually brighter now, the PS2 version is sort of overcast and a little laster in the day and the PS1 version takes place later in the evening.

Important detail.

Doesn’t advertise an Xbox One and PS4 version at the end of the trailer. Time for the hold outs to upgrade if they want to play this it seems.

Looks unreal. FINALLY some update. Can’t believe the game will look like this, holy shit, that’s a leap in fidelity and animation.

They also updated the website with a ton of new info and screenshots.

While I´m personally not on the GTAVI hype-train, I´m definitely excited to see what the open world in this one will look like. The trailers and screenshots look great (though I won´t consider them indicative of the final product until the thing actually comes out - trailers and screenshots always look better), especially the variety of the city itself, the Keys, and the Grassrivers.

Question is, what will all the stuff beyond the open world itself be like? GTAV was a mixed bag at best (admittedly, GTAO and the way they´ve been milking it for over a decade soured my taste quite a lot).

Is it really that much of a consolation, knowing that the game is still a year off from now? I´d probably consider it a middle finger from T2/R* if I was hyped for it.

Also, I´m actually happy for the delay (sorry!). It´ll give the new Mafia some spotlight at least (not to mention some award potential for KCD2, unless Valve somehow really throws out Half-Life 3 in the meantime).

Would be great if they at least made it a separate download this time around…

It looks great and I’m sure it will be really fun, but boy it’s disappointing how slow Rockstar’s game development is. It’s taken thousands of devs across a dozen studios almost 8 years to make GTA 6. Probably would have been out sooner if they weren’t so focused on making online stuff.

I’d gladly take much smaller games if it meant there were new ones coming out every 3 or so years. I really doubt we’ll ever see a Rockstar developed game in the future that’s not GTA or Red Dead related cause there’s not enough money in it. God forbid they make another Bully game…

You have a right to think that, of course, but given previous rockstar media, I think it’s pretty resprentative of the final products. Especially RDR2s trailers had some very low quality assets and textures on full display.

To me personally, I’d say yes. They could delay it once more for all I care. My issue was the radio silence since trailer 1. I am beyond satisfied with this massive info dump.

Now they only need to show that cars have weight and momentum and that the driving is actually good and not whatever 5 had.

I also agree with lukefsjes sentiment that the lack of games is pretty disappointing. We might just have to accept that Rockstar wants to make industry leading games beyond what everyone else is capable of and that it comes with the cost of looooong development times. Now, I dont claim to have any insider knowledge but I think the goal is probably 5 ish years between games. RDR2 was planned for release in 2017 but got delayed. It also probably didnt help GTAs development that covid happened. In any case, I’m just glad it is a real thing and not some mythological entity anymore.
