I’m so sceptical about its release. Leslie Benzies was the top guy at Rockstar for over 15 years but yeah for some reason I’m completely disinterested in its release. I’ll wait for reviews.
In a bit of a surprise for me, the guy running the course I’m on mentioned he had a friend who worked at a video game developer making Mindseye. I didn’t realise they were based in Edinburgh, so close to where I am. So kindof hope that person doesn’t get laid off soon or what have you.
Cynical, but I must admit I am wondering if the reason IOI are bothering to have their own livestream, rather than just show stuff during Summer Games Fest/State of Play/Xbox Showcase/Nintendo Direct is so that they can dedicate the livestream to advertising Mindseye are much as they can before release. Like 5 minutes of new stuff for Hitman 3, 30 minutes of Mindseye, and then at the end a 1 minute trailer for First Light.
Hope I’m wrong, certainly hope we get some substantial stuff for First Light, like some real gameplay footage, but I am wondering if this livestream is basically the “Mindseye show”.
I guaran-freaking-tee you guys that the reason IOI is doing this showcase, giving away so many Hitman unlocks, and announcing 007 First Light, is to direct attention away from Mindseye, which will be an incomplete game replete with red flags by a developer that all reports indicate to be incompetent.
This comment paid for by Rockstar.
Well after watching the Mindseye gameplay trailer, it looks to me that it’s just a standard GTA clone with a generic futuristic flair. I get that GTA was Leslie Benzie’s bread and butter at Rockstar, but they could’ve put a bit more effort into making it look more unique.
And when showing off the mission creator they say “We are passionate about democratizing video game development”. Boy that’s a buzzword line if I’ve ever heard one.
I did not know Mindseye had a gameplay trailer already so I took a look.
It seems to be something between GTA and Cyberpunk indeed. But I think this genre can be quite large and you can find a niche. If there could only be GTA, then the next GTA would have trouble too. But I bet VI will not. So people like this genre and like new games in there.
Still, finding a niche can be super hard. Saints Row did not manage in the end and Watch Dogs, well, I never played Legion but they seem willing to experiment.
I too will wait for reviews.
Mindseye looks so boring and lifeless, once the trailer is over you already forgot what you saw. No style, no charme, nothing.
Mindeyes is just another game, designed to rely on UGC experiences. If that’s your thing then sure enjoy it. But everything I’ve seen from the core experience does not impress me.
People will check it out, but the success of the game hinges on the playerbase’s ability to create good experiences
I’ll say. I keep meaning to watch the trailer, but I keep forgetting it’s there as soon as a look away, so still don’t even know what this damn thing is about.
It’s had next to no marketing at all. Considering it’s out next week, I’ve seen nothing about it at all.
Hm I doubt that something as important as the reveal of First Light, their self-described “most ambitious game to date”, their year long investment and chance to really hit the big-time, will have been planned specifically to prop up a game they’re only distributing.
If this really is the case, then that’s beyond irrational of IO, because from previews MindsEye sounds like an unfinished, uninspired mess. And it could in turn just end up tainting their real main focus.
007 won’t be live service always online riiiiight?
There were rumors of being a trilogy I think… The checks get boxed…
Was about to correct you, then saw what you did there. ![]()
