What Videogame(s) Are You Playing?

I partially did.

In general I hate looting in rpgs, even more in bethesda engine games. Back in 2011-2012 I played Skyrim without looting anything, forcing me to make money only through quests (in Skyrim, radiant), And honestly it’s so much more enjoyable. The experience was much more fluid. I actually look at the environment. Instead of launching myself face first into every piece of furniture and dead bodies to take everything, blurring everything in a mix of close-ups of flesh, blood, stone and wood. Economy is more involved then too. I kept the habit (disliked Cyberpunk 77 and Fallout 4 in consequence)

Something else : I never fast travel. Which is quite pleasant. Except at the start of the run where I had to limp 10 minutes to a doctor, because limb can only be healed with a doctor bag or a doctor in Hardcore, and I broke a leg. More on that later. But it will be something I will remember for a while.

Still, for this run even if I maintain the spirit of it all (no looting to sell and break the economy), I still loot the skill books, and in dead money all of the Sierra Madre Playing Cards (I play caravan to make caps here), and took the stealth suit mk1 you see me wear in the screenshot.

I did take three gold bars though, sold them for implants at the clinic.

New Vegas is the one game I know almost completely. I would even say better than Hitman.
So for character build I aim for clusters of perks that synergize and you need to prepare for from the beginning.
I also go against the one thing everyone does in NV : my charisma is a 6. Because Animal Friend is fun, and with the implant I am at 7 which opens a few supplementary dialogues. And RP is paramount.

For my current clusters :

  • Light Armor / sneak:
    • Light Touch (less chance to receive critical hit if wearing light armour)
    • Silent Running (movement does not affect stealth)
    • Thoughness (two level of it) (for a total of +6 Damage Threshold)
    • Travel Light (ten percent faster movement if in light armour)

Tunnel Runner will be to be added later, for better speed in stealth. Special mention for Sub-Dermal Armour implant, for an additional +4 Damage Threshold, for a total of +10 DT, making my character heavily armoured, even in light clothing

  • VATS
    • Action Girl (two level of it) (for a total of +30 Action Point)
    • Math Wrath (reduce Action Point cost of action by 10 percent)
    • Nerves of Steel (regenerate Action Point quicker)

All of them counter the Trait “Trigger Discipline” that make me more 20 percent more accurate at the cost of 20 percent costlier actions in VATS, that I took at character creation.
The objective will be to finish with the possibility to have a weapon with a low magazine count, but that I will be able to entirely use in one VATS turn.
I will have to add another Agility Point at minimum to make it work. And I will add the Concentrated Fire, a perk that add 5 percent chance to hit for every consecutive shot.

I currently don’t have any weapon specific perk, and am still open about them. I mostly run the MF Hyperbreeder Alpha, the unique recharger auto laser pistol, 10 quick shot and then wait for it to cool down, but infinite ammo. And I have a plasma defender (fun fact : canonically a Glock), with Optimized Ammo for heavy damage if needed. But I might switch later on.
Maybe ballistic. Honest Heart is next, and with it the M1911…

What you are here for @Rimland, the survival cluster :

  • Survival / Hardcore, general :
    • Animal Friend (animals do not attack, what is better than frolicking with Geckos and Nighstalkers)
    • Them Good Eating (animal drop blood sausages and red paste, both excellent healing items)
  • Survival / Hardcore, the camp :
    • Home on the Range (can sleep at campfire)
    • Irradiated Beauty (sleeping remove radiation, “only” 100 in Hardcore)
    • Rough’in it (any time you sleep outside, you gain the well rested status, in Hardcore and coupled with Hone on the Range, allows you to heal when sleeping at campfire, a mechanic usually disabled in Hardcore)

All of them make me use the outside world much more : animal friend make exploration safe(ish), and even soothing in some place. And the emphasis to the use of campfire make me seek them and use them. Bonus for cooking food for healing (a gecko steak heals 90 health for me). Be advise though : you need to heavily invest in survival.
The fact that the Hardcore restriction on healing is lifted with the right combination of perks makes it very rewarding to pull. I can heal limbs just by sleeping at a campfire !

Some bonus : RP perks are Cherchez la Femme (I am running with Veronica, and RP as if I want her to reunite with Christine), and Living Anatomy, because VATS information, and I am a Follower of the Apocalypse fan.

In general my Perception and Luck are “low” (4, with implant, starter at 3), so the usual route of New Vegas of the critical build / casino cleaning is not for me. So I won’t look like 80 percent of players with 1st Recon Beret, Joshua Graham Armor, and Lucky Shade. Which is neat to do.

Because instead I look like Solid Snake :sunglasses:

Extra bonus : in 4-6 level I will have finished my three cluster of perks, and I will have to go for a weapon one. (Lonesome Road is coming at the end)
As I said, Perception and Luck are low, so no Better Critical, Sniper and all that. (beside they are boring).
I have three possible one in sights, to go with the VATS one:

  • The M1911 :
    • Gunslinger (plus 15 percent chance to hit in VATS for one handed weapon)
    • Grunt (plus 25 percent of damage with “grunt” weapons)

The plus : best for current build, with 1 more agility I will be able to empty the entire magazine in one turn of VATS, for devastating results.
The min : simple, too simple

  • The Dinner Bell (unique shotgun)
    • Shotgun Surgeon (shotgun ignore armour)
    • And Stay Back (high chance of knocking back targets)
    • Center of Mass (plus 15 percent of damage if aiming for the torso is VATS)

The plus : fun
The min : the rest of my build is not made for shotgun, and will not use it at the best capacity

  • The Plasma
    • Plasma Spaz (reduce Action Point cost of plasma weapon in VATS)
    • Meltdown (kill with energy weapon will make the target explode in a green corona explosion that will harm nearby enemy, and can cause a chain reaction)

The plus : green explosion everywhere, best synergy with the VATS build
The con : I don’t like plasma weapons

For now I just did the Freeside mission to enter the Strip. RP wise my character is going to have a slight breakdown when confronted by all those factions, say screw it I’m out, and take a job far away from it.

A job that is supposed to go to new Canaan…

I actually find it satisfying when it comes to Skyrim especially since I have a mod that makes the icon’s pastel colors so it’s more visually appealing.

they’re certainly better than they were.

you not played any of them…?

A bit ashamed to admit I indeed haven´t… I definitely want to play The Outer Worlds and Pentiment, but I´m waiting for the former to finally get a decent enough discount, and need to be in the proper mood to buy/play the latter.

The rest of their post-2010 portfolio are mostly fantasy RPGs, which - as I menioned elsewhere yesterday with regard to IO´s announcement - are by far the least appealing types of games for me… Though I probably will give Deadfire and Tyranny a go at some point. They seem to have interesting premises.

Tbh, I actually haven´t played any of their games outside of NV and AP  Definitely wanna try KotOR II, but not before I play the first KotOR, which, given my backlog (and lack of care for anything Star Wars), might take a few years :joy:

i’m kinda in the same boat. i generally find ‘straight’ fantasy settings dull. much prefer sci-fi.

i do make exceptions for crpgs though. a) the setting dominates the genre, and b) the numbers in these games are so damn crunchy, which makes character builds really varied and interesting.

deadfire and tyranny (the latter of which i haven’t played) do skew it somewhat with their piracy and ‘evil wins’ settings respectively, so they may work for you.

i’m playing pathfinder wrath of the righteous at the moment and, despite my distaste for the setting, the set-up and the systems are really good.

kotor is bioware, if you’re interested in that it’s well worth playing mass effect and dragon age as well. they’ve definitely aged better lol

Yeah, Bioware stuff is also on my “classics I´ve never played” list. Definitely wanna give Mass Effect a go at some point (maybe even this year if I feel like something sci-fi), though I think I might go for Jade Empire first.

there’s no better time to play them, with the remastered trilogy out (and free with ea play i think?) and sequels for both mass effect and dragon age coming out within the next few years

Well, I actually bought the OG trilogy before the remaster came out, so I´ll stick to that for a first playthrough  I´ll pass on Dragon Age though, for reasons mentioned earlier.

Sci-fi games usually require me to be in a specific “I feel like playing sci-fi now” mood, so hard to tell if I´ll actually get around to it… Got quite a few games prioritized in the upcoming months.

i strongly recommend you play the remastered trilogy if you can get your hands on it honestly, there are a lot of quality of life improvements (especially with the first game, where the original doesn’t play great). and i wouldn’t write off dragon age that easily, it’s not a bog standard fantasy setting - you might feel more drawn to playing it if you like the writing of mass effect though

Well, since I paid money for the OG trilogy, it´d feel like a bit of a waste not to play it  More importantly though, I generally prefer playing/experiencing the original versions of games when possible (I can handle the clunkiness and shortcomings). It´ll be nice to compare the remaster´s upgrades afterwards.

Ok, I´ll keep it in mind. Might even give it a go in the future if I find it appealing, but I´m pretty sure it´ll take quite a while before I get there…

Platinum’d once more

Now I’ll probably make a new save file sometime in the future, maybe soon maybe a bit later… I remember the opening is long and slow, and I’ve realised while re-completing some of the new PS5 requirements, this game even in the endgame still eats up time.
Got a 3DS game I want to get this month before the shop closes, and maybe something in my backlog or current list to finish up.

Out of curiosity, would you say that upgrading to the DC edition is a “must”? I’m hoping to finally give Death Stranding a go this year, so I’m just wondering whether I should purchase the upgrade beforehand or can skip it for the time being.

I haven’t experienced the full main game with it, I only dabbled in some of the extra content on offer after all the story stuff

I’d say it’s worth it if you’re gonna play with it from the beginning.
I’ve heard it’s all been added organically into the main quest line, so you can unlock even more structures to use along your journey, more Standard orders on offer, plus added bonus features like more Highway junctions to build, some of the CP2077 has unique Mule-hacking bonuses and H-L content has improved stats to base game items. Plus a few QOL additions to features like Cargo Carriers, Melee, BB vitality, among others.

It’s a fairly cheap upgrade from the base game, so I don’t see why not.

With the last of us tv-series currently on air. I Couldn’t stop myself from buying the PS5 remake of The Last of Us. It feels similar to the original ps3 version. Yet they changed it so it feels more similar to Part 2. Also the graphics, are gorgeous.

Still a brilliant game. Look forward to dive into the awesome sequel.

I just played Stray and I really enjoyed it  I’m not feeling well at the moment and it was good to play such a beautiful and entertaining game. The graphics were great, I liked the individual robots and this decelerated mood. Somehow I hope for a second part, the game definitely has potential for a it and the story was so beautiful and exciting,I think there’s a lot more that can be done  And the cat is so cute :face_holding_back_tears:

Together with my brother I am currently playing Journey to the savage planet. I like the sarcastic humour of the game, it reminds me of Portal in many places  We are more or less finished and have already killed the ending boss, but there is still so much to discover that we want to keep playing. I am looking forward :relieved:

By playtime, Slay The Spire has now overtaken everything in my Steam library other than the WoA trilogy (positions 1-3) and XCOM: Enemy Within, XCOM 2 and XCOM: Chimera Squad (positions 4-6).

I’ve only bought the fucker in November 2022 and it has passed the likes of GTA5, RDR2 and Portal/Portal 2. And I only really like playing as the Watcher so nearly all of that time has been spent avoiding Pressure Points!

If I’m not playing Freelancer (which is still my main go-to), I’m playing StS. CAW! CAAW!!

Still never made it to Act 4 yet because I haven’t beaten Act 3 with Defect (not sure I’ve ever beaten Act 2 with Defect, actually - I just do not get how to play it) and I have so much fun just picking Watcher every time and destroying everything in Wrath/Divinity. YOLO all the way!

After waiting some time for a functioning Joy-Con, I recently finally made it to the postgame of Pokémon Violet. All I can really say is that this has to be one of the best in the franchise. The story was one of the most engaging in a long time, the cast was fantastic; I mean, if not for the performance issues*… who knows? Maybe it should be number one but it’s definitely at least top three.

*I wasn’t actually that bothered by them but I could definitely notice them. Let me tell you, there might be some people who can notice a single pixel in the background running at 59fps but I am not one of them; it takes A LOT for me to notice things like that. I don’t want to dock the game too much for them though and, for some reason, I found some things, like the sub 15fps windmills, oddly therapeutic and satisfying. :man_shrugging:

All in all, a truly fantastic experience, maybe helped by my growing collection of shinies. I know it’s never been easier to get a shiny Pokémon but I want to note that the only one I got in the entire history of the mainline games was the red Gyarados (some twenty plus years ago) and now I have seven (including a full odds Voltorb that was just rolling by and miraculously didn’t explode).

Anyway, if I’ve ever had this much fun or been this satisfied playing a mainline Pokémon game, it’s been so long I genuinely can’t remember. Truly remarkable stuff!
