What Videogame(s) Are You Playing?

doesn’t stellaris count…?

in any case, i can tell you precisely what i’d say:

Hmmm. I will be nice to you and say that Stellaris will count even though it is one of the easier ones to play. Been a long time since I played any of those games, they were on my brother’s laptop in the days before it carked itself.

For Civilisation I recommend you get the expansions if you don’t already have them. Hasn’t been a single one since 4 that didn’t feel naked without them. You can find random guides on the wiki as well as various strategies but I recommend getting a feel of the game by going for military victories.

Civ is one of the easier strategy games to play so you will get the hang of it easy, it is the reason there are six of them.

In order to be actually helpful, I’d say first play on Prince or lower difficulty until you get a feel for the game. Don’t say no to the tutorial and/or the in game tips. I’m not an expert but, as I said, each civilization plays differently so once you find a groove stick to ones that fit your play style. The key in the early game is food and production to grow your population and work tiles that will grow your civilization and so on. As the game goes on, you’ll want to focus on science and culture as those are two of the more prominent victory types. The game will prioritize tiles with more resources in general but you can micromanage what your populace works in the city menu to prioritize specific resources at specific times. However, some civilizations are better at conquering others or building a strong religion, so it’s more about playing to the civilizations’ strengths than anything.

Also, you may not want to attack others (and that’s perfectly fine) but you will need to train a small number of military units to act as a deterrent from attack. Some civilizations are more militaristic than others and if they think their military is stronger than yours, they may try to take advantage of that. Beware the ancient era civilizations (especially if you aren’t one) because they get their unique units first and some of them can be brutal. If you meet Gilgamesh from Sumeria in one of your games, offer him friendship; he will always accept on the first turn after you meet him. Be sure to renew that when it tells you it’s expired; friends and allies can’t attack you no matter how much they may hate you.

To conclude, I don’t pretend to be an expert and I don’t play at the highest difficulties most of the time myself. Mostly, it’s just getting a feel for how each civilization plays both when controlled by you and by AI. The best thing I can do is recommend YouTubers like Potato McWhiskey who make great Civilization VI content if you have the time. Best of luck and I hope you enjoy it once you learn how to play. I’m also intimidated by Paradox games (though I want to play them) but the perceived difficulty of one game should in no way dictate whether you’re allowed to enjoy another one.

you are too kind, your lordship. :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

yeah, i got the expansions and stuff. i think i’d have learned better when it was naked than having every system thrown at me all at once. i’m not a smart man.

i guess i’m just looking for stuff that will show me what each resource does, how it relates to game systems, and the gameplay loop for early/mid/late game… oh, and what all those freakin icons mean.

@Krikkit2021 ah, nice one! thank you. will report back after my initial failures. if you need stellaris tips, just holler :slightly_smiling_face:

Oh well I guess you better learn how to fight wars and stop climate change at the same time. Not like it isn’t hard, just look at- Oh…

The game has an in-game glossary/encyclopedia of what all of that stuff is plus the wiki also has some nice details on what each resource is and the like.

You don’t stop climate change, you just build flood barriers or hope you’re landlocked.

See @Screaming_Meat ? This game has an attention to detail and sense of realism that other historical strategy games lack.

That’s because most of them are too focused on the Second World Kerfuffle or Medieval Incest to even remember all the immortal god-kings throughout history, never mind the importance of flood barriers!

I’ve started to replay the Last of us 2, ng+ on the highest difficulty, its really challenging.

I personally like the first game better, story-wise, but the gameplay in 2 is just fantastic. I can’t stop thinking about how great a Kane & Lynch Game made by naughty dog would be…

i really liked tlou2. got about halfway, a couple of missions after the ol’ switcheroo… but i get about 20-40 hours into something, then play something else for some reason. i’m fickle.

regardless, the combat is incredible. the way you can improvise and how hectic it is works beautifully, but… kind of defeats the point they were making a little.

I’ve been getting those “playlists” too. It seems to be a mix of almost any music I’ve listened to or listened to recently, or maybe gave a :+1: to. Like it’s some kind of YouTube AI/algorithm making it up and not really understanding how to make a good playlist.

yea its an absolute algorhythm, which i absolutely love because it allows me to just have giant playlist of all my music i listened to in recent memory because the algorhythm remembers that shit without me having to do anything

The Binding of Isaac: Repentance completed, finally. Idk what I should do with my life now, maybe wait for that new Hitman content.
