WOA Co-op News Thread

I’ve said this elsewhere and I will say this here on the matter of co-op mode playable characters.

In IOI’s shoes, I would have simply made both players’ characters appear as 47, like in Ghost mode. Not out of malice towards Knight, Stone, Grey or God knows what other characters – simply because that would be the most practical, “lex parsimonae” solution.

As long as they are not the same ones then it should be fine.

I also want to add that i think that coop should not be for main missions as that would kinda make 47 look a bit useless, in a sense.

The main story targets are supposed to be highly protected and difficult to get to and having a couple of chumps being successful at killing those targets just kills the lore of the hitman series and 47. At least for me. Like why did the ica hire 47 when they could just get these 2 clowns? Lol

So i think it would only make sense in freelancer with random targets.

Here’s a co-op mode I want to see: one player is 47, the other is the target, and they just avoid him. And when 47 puts on a disguise, he looks like the NPC he took the disguise from (or like one elsewhere on the map if it’s a disguise that was just lying around), until he gets within a certain distance of the player who is the target, so unless they are looking right at him, they won’t see an NPC suddenly shift to looking like 47 in disguise until it’s too late.

I personally wouldn’t mind if who we were playing in coop were just the ICA guys we get to kill in Berlin. That way IOI can avoid making new models while also avoiding 94 (2 x 47) running around in the levels.

Also known as “hide in a box forever until the other player ragequits” mode.

Well, obviously that wouldn’t be an option, as only 47 can hide in a box, and there’d be a timer.

To be fair, we’ve been down that route before and it didn’t work out with Ghost Mode. I think Knight and Stone is fine for Co-Op and keep 47 for the main story/single player.

I kinda doubt that aspect did not work out. I think people actually liked sporting their favorite suit in these matches. That might be not a thing with Knight and Stone.

I agree with you Lewis I perfer stone and knight to be co op for themselves and 47 to be singleplayer only for himself

Isn’t co-op short fo cooperative?

Your game sounds like normal multiplayer (pvp) only the players have different abilities sorta like the predator game where one player is predator and then other players are on a team as humans.

I kind of wonder how co-op will work with shared items

Like intel would obviously be shared between knight and stone but what about keys and keycards? What about mission stories? Would they even be in co-op? I wonder how things like this would work co-op

Whatever challenges they put in for co-op, I hope they work like they did in Sniper Assassin.

I remember playing multiplayer Hantu Port near launch and the other person was doing stuff to complete some challenges, which was triggering them to get marked off on my end as well. :joy: So technically I have some challenges I never did even though they’re checked off.

So long as IO keeps adding depth into their game modes, then It’s not bad to try new things gameplay-wise. They just have to be careful about how they go about it. Ghost Mode was fine, but it didn’t have the best balancing in the world, and while I found it fun, it was never really a draw for most players. In fact, it was never officially out of beta, and that’s how it was treated.

My main problem with the co-op mode right now is that, going off of IO’s past behaviour, the matchmaking won’t be cross-platform, which is something that should be a thing by now when it comes to leaderboards. But unless you’re playing via the Xbox/ Microsoft ecosystem, it’s off-limits.

The game is already niche to begin with (hardly unpopular, but it’s certainly not a big franchise, in spite of IOI’s past actions), so adding a co-op mode, no matter how good it is to play, will be hampered if people can’t find people in time, or if friends lists aren’t cross-platform via Steam, Epic Xbox, PS4/5, Switch 1 and 2. And iOS.

Fall Guys and Sonic CrossWorlds have cross-platform leaderboards, friends lists, and cross-platform lobby matchmaking capabilities (though Crossworlds oddly does not have cross-platform accounts, even though you can link all the major providers via the Sega account system – it’s weird). If I were IOI, keeping matchmaking times low would be a big priority for me, otherwise it’ll be abandoned, plain and simple.

EDIT: Apparently I have wishing powers: Cross-Progression is coming to HITMAN WOA and New Look to IOI Account

Imagine they did add it back

I wonder if the announcement of Cross Progression between consoles/PC devices means laying the groundwork for potential cross-play co-op between different devices?

I sure hope so! :folded_hands::grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hopefully it will have the option for both online and splitscreen if the option is brought back.

Could make unlocking any co-op challenges easier. Play on console, then have a friend on PC with mods/SDK to cheese the completion on them where possible. :joy:

Missed this when it was posted. Sorry about the late post revive.

I wonder if the mode is going to be on the Freelancer sub-menu that currently only contains the Safehouse and the How to play video.
In addition to a main menu tile of course.

If it’s Freelancer-like in structure of the missions, first yay, it was my hope and wishes.
But also:

  • Will we have a Safehouse? Workable as a lobby?
  • Will it have some lore, like “Diana is rebuilding the ICA and recruited those two”? Or pure independent contractors / Mendoza dialogue / don’t ask about the nose?

If the mode ends up having disguises, I hope IOI will consider having a solo-woman Freelancer too.
Victoria is right there.
(Doesn’t look like it though, which is fair both in and out of the game)

(and we all remember the end of Lasse Bruun Hansen Dev Talk at Nordic Game 24…)

More essentially for the mode:
I don’t remember in the Sniper Co-Op from Hitman 2: was there a ping, create countdown, communicate via UI in general / a radial menu in it?
