I don’t understand why so many people dislike Dubai. It is one of my favorite missions and one of the only H3 missions that take place in a high luxury location.
I do wish they would change two things about this mission though. I was hoping to hear Arabic accents. I think Omar Al-Ghazali should definitely have an accent.
I do wish the mission was larger. But overall, it is an incredible mission
I love all the maps really, even Colorado, but the reason I would rank Dubai near the bottom is that it just feels old hat. We already had luxury hotels, and other levels that felt similar. With all the things they could have done… a prison, a military base, a carnival, whatever… it’s a shame to have another hotel. Outside of that, I do think it’s well made.
I think as a piece of level design, tho, its incredible. There are SO many routes packed into that relatively small space. The recent knife escalation really highlighted that
But I must admit as time progresses my love of Dartmoor is diminishing. Conversely my appreciation of Dubai’s interesting structure (if not it’s targets) is increasing
Atmospherically I agree Dartmoor is miles better than Dubai. But mechanically and level design wise Dartmoor is just starting to feel quite bare for me. On the other Dubai feels like it has layers to it, literally and figuratively
I didn’t get hotel vibes from it and honestly I don’t think the developers see it as a hotel either. If you look at the biggest skycrapers in the world they all have penthouses up top (because there are always rich people that will pay big for them) and below the upper penthouse floor it is more of an expo centre type vibe. I think most of the map has more in common with the expo centre in Miami rather than feeling like Traditions of the Trade or the Casino in Blood Money.
That said I would have welcomed one or two floors of hotel rooms/apartments below the bottom level of the current map. It’s a pretty setting and you can see why they wanted to open the game with it but I do think it could be a bit bigger.
Dubai has been the map I’ve played the most so far, between the mission and contracts mode, which is a fact that’s surprised even me. I was wishing it was bigger at first, but I agree with what’s been said previously about how they pack so many routes and ways up the tower into a relatively small space. The comparison that comes to mind for me is Sgail with all the climbing you can do.
Dubai is great, if the targets were a little more difficult to kill and maybe had a couple more fibre wire SASO routes later in their route instead of earlier it’d be one of the greats. Conversely I don’t get the love for Mendoza, which has less in depth target manipulation outside of a cool mission story.
Does Dubai have any interesting easter eggs like Berlin’s hippo and ufo that I haven’t heard about yet? Because as it is I think its probably one of the most boring missions in the entire trilogy, next to The Author and the barely changed scenarios like the special assignments and the Sarajevo Six.
Three things I´m missing in Dubai which would make it an even better mission for me:
The option to kill the targets with a bomb while they are evacuating in the helicopter, as a scene from the launch trailer slightly suggested might be a thing. There are only three vehicle assassinations in this trilogy, and we haven´t had a helicopter explosion kill since Shogun Showdown
The ability to access that sodding glass rooftop (or even better the very top of the tower), as one of the very first official screenshots and promos clearly suggested we would be able to
I loved what Mendoza did with blend spots - they’re everywhere. Every bench, numerous tables and a few railings. I wish they’d go back and do that with more locations.
Can’t find the video, but in the discussion thread we had around IOI Monthly #15 in June 2020, they specifically told us that this was not just a marketing screenshot and that we’d be able to access the same spot on the roof as that marketing picture showed…
Once again, I absolutely love the WoA trilogy and it’s the most fun I’ve ever had with the Hitman franchise, but I do wish that IOI would stop over-promising and under-delivering when it comes to their public comms. It’s always such a self-inflicted wound, because they make completely unprompted statements (that nobody is forcing them to come out with) and then fail to follow through on them, whereas if they delivered exactly the same thing as they have done so far without the overambitious claims then nobody would think any less of them as they wouldn’t have known any different in the first place.
So a while back i manage to get to get out of bounds on the outdoor area and i try to recreated the promo image that was show back when H3 wasn’t release
Also i got back to the ghazali exterior starting locations and when i got to the clothing booth and if you enter the curtains it will change to the Ashen Suit
Is there a way to get the Skydiving Suit off the rack and go through the map without causing fuss on the atrium? That lady from the lockbox room and the man on the counter spot you every time.
