New Roadmap: Season of the Luck

Ok, what’s the deal with the Fixer, why is everyone freaking out about this target?

so could this RFID taser theoretically be able to ignite a oil canistor if next to it, so essentially a coin required accident proximity explosive

Target has instant fail complications making it the most failed ET to date

It means that the Year 4 ETs are being reran on those dates for people who missed any, the first 12 in the first batch and the other 13 in the second, in order of when they were activated last year.

The first batch is The Heartbreaker through The Procurers, and the second batch is The Ex-Dictator through The Pharmacist. The only ETs not being rerun are the celeb ETs.

Running the Galore now seems a bit daft imo, especially since they’re running the same ETs again this year (+ The Fixer). It made more sense to do it over the holiday period where there wasn’t much of anything else going on the game and it put distance between it and the next year’s ETs.

Why are new players going to care about the initial Y5 ETs if they’ve played them in the weeks prior already?

A canister? No.
An oil puddle from a canister? Yes.

But you will need to hide the device though. A doorway/corner is certainly going to be the only way to do it.
It will then ignite it when the coin is in proximity of it. Usually by being carried by an NPC. But you can also throw it, or have it on 47 himself. The last one is rather dangerous, but might be feasible with the electrocution device.

  • If the device is not hidden, and the coin is carried by a civilian it will conflict out. The civilian will refuse to approach the device, and ask a guard to take it away. This would then disrupt and cancel the whole exercise.
  • If the coin is carried by a guard, he will approach and secure the device. In gameplay it would transform it into a more complex and exclusive proximity electrocution device most of the time.
  • There will be some exotic application. Like having the coin and the device being carried by two different NPCs. Or by placing the coin by the weapon crate point. Or to assure the right npc activates it.

RFID explosive goes around this by usually being concealed in a bin, but this might be impossible for the Electrocution one due to potential conflicting items properties.

Gotcha.
I have only The Procurers available due to missing them the last time around, being the first time ever missing an ET.
I don’t count the rerun of the The Disruptor, though maybe I should, but they removed him from the game. Shame not entirely and its poking eyes in the stats, suits and Freelancer.
Didn’t expect these news about him and wasn’t in a hurry of eliminating him and buying his pack, now I’m slightly regret

Feeling pretty meh about the actual gameplay content for this roadmap, but just want to say that the name “Season of THE Luck” is absolutely grating. Why on earth didn’t they go with “Season of Luck” instead?

I don’t really understand any practical applications an RFID taser could have (especially if it’s still a suspicious item) but at least it’s a novelty item, so I’ll probably try a few things with it.

I already own Lee Hong Derivation but it’s an excellent escalation, maybe the best in Chongqing so it’s nice to make it available for the Chinese New Year (I dunno if it will award its unlocks to people who don’t own it though?).

As for the Fixer I’m kinda dreading it, since there’s no way to practice it in the Arcade

“The” has appeared in roadmaps since they became to be centered on celebrETs. I think it’s a leftover.

Doesn’t stop it just sounding crap though. The “the” in previous season names was used to form a proper noun for a specific person/target - as far as I can tell there’s no upcoming person called The Luck in the coming weeks, so they should have dropped the “the” and not made a proper noun for something that doesn’t exist.

Eh, I’m not that annoyed about it and I’ll leave it here, but it’s just a bit naff and for no good reason.

We are a concentrated voice, but not the biggest I feel. I’d wager the reddit is bigger just due to it being more casual-leaning.

I don’t really understand any practical applications of proximity items. I would like to control the situation. Remote and microremote variants are enough. 47 can’t hold more if he also brings coins.

The suggestion for the challenge/unlock had it as a micro device.

IO decided to take that suggestion and make it a fairly useless item.

Same reason they like to put the wrong “its”, they don’t think about it long enough.

It has a some really nasty insta-fail complications that players get caught out on.

Intercept the courier early? Instafail. Kill Xander before the meetup? Instafail. Kill the courier before the Diamond exchange? Instafail. Kill a marketeer before the exchange? Instafail! You also have to tail the courier (or know where he ends his routine ahead of time), which is also annoying in its own right as their route will be made longer if he spots you tailing him.

It is (or what I thought was) widely disliked, and that’s reflected by the fact it has a 23% initial completion rate. That is a very concerning number as that means only 1/4 of players who tried it succeeded, and 3/4 of participants failed it, and that is a very undesirable win-rate for a temporary target.

It has been re-run precisely three times (twice in 2016, a third time in H2), and former IO PR manager Travis also explained the lack of reruns or an ETA contract was due to being “frustrating for players”, where he also namedropped another ET too; the Ex-Dictator.

It’s the hardest, worst, and one of the more complex-feeling targets in WOA, and it’s all to do with the ambiguity of information surrounding the mission. Mission-critical elements are either easily missed or just straight up not told to you ahead of time.

I can’t speak for anyone else, but if the Fixer is running unmodified, then expect a lot of complaints IO. You have been warned.

of course, you wanted to say 3/4, or 1/4 but not failed.

Fixed, thanks. Just woke up from a nap.

also 20 characters.

I’ve said it before - all they need to do to fix The Fixer is remove the insta-fail complications on it.

That way you can either speedrun it by subduing the three vendors until you find the diamonds and kill the target and risk losing SA because you’re taking the inaccurate route with the diamonds. Or you can let it play out as you currently have to and get it right first time with minimal risk.
